Sirsi Sahasra Linga at Uttara Kannada

Shiva Linga rise up above the water, when river Shikri water reduced, there are about thousands of Shiva Lingas were seen under the water every year. Sirsi Sahasra Linga is located 17 kilometers from Sirsi in the northern part of Karnataka known as Uttara Kannada. During Hindu festival Shivratri thousands of pilgrims visit this place and offer pujas. One advantage of visiting this place during ‎Shivratri‬ is the water level in the river is low and most of the Lingas are visible with their bases. No one knew when and who carved them. People visit this spot for its scenic beauty as well. This place is situated in the middle of forest in the Western Ghats.

Sirsi Sahasra Shiva Linga on River ShalmalaOne can see hundreds of Shivalingas carved in stones and rocks in the middle of the river. The river is called Shalmala. The river is "Shalmala" Uttara Kannada Dist. Karnataka, on the banks of the river this carvings have been done. The name is called "Sahasralinga" which means 1000 Lingas in Sanskrit.
